The HODL club will be closing to all new applicants

On Wednesday the 25th of July at 1700 Melbourne time both tiers of the CanYa HODL club will be closed to all new applications.

What is the CanYa HODL Club?

The HODL club was designed to create a core group of long term supporters of the CanYa project. By HODLing their tokens they would be rewarded with air-dropped tokens and other benefits.

The club was separated into two groups:

OG:

  • 5000 CAN during the ICO or 10,000 CAN post ICO

Tier 2:

  • 2500–9999 CAN post ICO

You can read more about the HODL club here: https://blog.canya.com/2018/02/25/canya-hodl-club-2/

Why is it being cut off from new entrants?

The CanYa team believe that recently the dialog with the HODL club members has dried up. To re-invigorate discussion between the team and our HODLers we moved from Discord to a new HODL private Telegram group. This had the desired effect and our HODLers started providing the team with plenty of feedback.

One of the main issues was the fact that the club was open to new participants at a much cheaper entry price than earlier entrants. To rectify this we held a poll amongst our HODLers to decide whether to close the club to any new participants. It was unanimously decided that this would occur as soon as possible.

After the club is closed anyone moving tokens out of their HODL address will forever be ejected from the HODL club.

I have already applied, will I get in?

Any valid application received before the 25th of July at 1700 Melbourne time will be accepted into the club pending the ’45 day proof of HODL’. As per the rules they will not receive any air drops until they have passed the proof of HODL test.

Anyone trying to enter the HODL club after this date will be denied.

What will happen to the HODL club after all of the airdrops are finished?

We will keep the HODL club community going as a core group of supporters to the project.

Additionally, HODL club members will be given preference to stake (and earn) tokens once the CanYa DAO becomes active. The specifics of this, and the tokenomics involved, are still being finalised.

Note:if you are a HODLer and not in the ‘Spartan’ TG group please email support@canya.com or contact a community admin in our community TG

Introducing the CanYa Style Guide

CanStyle

In line with developing our ecosystem of CanApps, the CanYa design team has crafted a style guide which works as a bridge between designers and developers, which will become particularly relevant as we move into our DAO governance structure in the coming months.

CanStyle features set typography, colours as well as widgets and modular components, to create a universal template of the CanYa visual style. CanStyle allows for designers and developers to ensure consistency amongst all the CANApps both current and in the pipeline. Style guides are essential as a source of truth in the product development process. CanStyle acts a repository of our visual identity and looks toward enabling design excellence within our brand and our applications.

CanStyle facilitates the following best practices:

Clear brand messaging

The style guide is a visual representation of our identity, and the standards within this guide when followed will help CanYa to communicate a uniform brand message.

Rapid Prototyping

The CanYa design team can work using modular features within their working environments. Modular elements such as headers, footers, widgets and other styling tools can easily be applied when making prototypes and high-fidelity interface designs. It’s as simple as dragging and dropping key elements into the workspace, and adjusting the experience dependant on the functionality of each CANApp.

Modular Codebase & Style Guide Philsophy

The CanYa development team are able to source code for essential visual assets to be able to quickly build CANApps without rework. Due to rapid and consistent prototyping on the design end, developers can create bespoke elements to CANApps with ease and without deliberation.  Moving forward we can look forward to a streamlined front end development structure and implementation processes.

Designers and developers can now spend less time on styling and more time on building the future powered by CanYa!

CanYa is focused on creating a value-driven approach to development, solving real everyday problems with user experience and the power of decentralised & distributed web3 technologies.

CANApp #6 – CANSend

CANSend is a terrific tool for the gig economy that allows you to send ERC20 Tokens to Multiple Addresses at a time.  This is incredibly useful for startups that are integrating cryptocurrencies as a payment layer, ICO’s that are looking to do airdrops or pay multiple employees using their native ERC20 token.

It has always been CanYa’s ambition to expedite the adoption of crypto and this tool is another example of our commitment to removing commercial barriers for crypto as a multipurpose tool for businesses.

Why is it useful?

CANSend offers great utility as a stepping stone tool for the integration of crypto as a payment option for employers, as well as for software developers that are paying for multiple bug bounties on platforms such as Bountysource.

As mentioned above, it will be a tool that becomes ingrained in the ICO community as developing projects can pay their employees in their native token to align their employees with equity as they are developing the core product.  This, of course, is also handy for circulation and volume as a project is finding its feet pre-product/use-case scenario.

Airdrops

The overwhelming majority of ICOs are based on the ERC20 standard of Ethereum.  This means that if they have airdrop incentives built into their tokenomics they will need a mechanism to batch send tokens to potentially thousands of addresses.  Without a tool such as CANSend this task would not only be laborious but also inaccurate as a project would need to rely on Excel spreadsheets and Google Docs.

Screen Shot 2018-06-20 at 1.06.08 PM.png
1. Send tokens to your recipients by adding their addresses and the amount you would like to send

It is also an incredibly cost-efficient tool to use commercially or casually.  Currently, it costs just 1 CAN to send to 10 addresses.

Screen Shot 2018-06-20 at 12.55.21 pm.png
2. Pay the transaction fee, 1 CAN per 10 addresses.

Screen Shot 2018-06-20 at 1.10.42 PM.png

3. Confirm your transaction, and send your tokens!

Takeaway

We are incredibly excited to add CANSend to our ever-growing suite of CANApps.  As a start-up project that makes use of the Ethereum blockchain, we are only too aware of the challenges of using cutting-edge technology that in many instances does not have an existing supporting technology to facilitate its commercial use.  In many cases, we at CanYa have built supporting mechanism’s, and in the spirit of open-source software development, we are only too happy to share these tools to support other ERC20 projects.

This particular tool will play an integral role in supporting the overwhelming amount of new ICO projects to action airdrops and pay employees.  With that, we are again not only supporting but actively helping to expedite the adoption of crypto!

CanYa working with UpChannel to deploy CANApps to millions of smartphones

UpChannel is a B2B SaaS (software as a service) platform, that connects carriers and smartphone manufacturers with their customers, enabling recurring relationships and data-driven insight through a native app.

In a nutshell, it is a customer support service that allows smartphone telecoms and manufacturers in emerging markets to connect directly with their customers, helping with support, troubleshooting, and customer engagement tools.

How does this have cross-over with CanYa?

UpChannel, with access to 44 million smartphones through its Connect platform and pre installed, white-label Android app, is adding blockchain technology to its existing product, which will include a cryptocurrency wallet and curated dApp marketplace.

UpChannel aims to be one of the world’s largest providers of digital cryptocurrency wallets. Most importantly for CanYa is that this dApp marketplace will support and distribute CANApps to over tens of millions of smartphones.

These smartphones are predominantly concentrated in emerging markets which also aligns perfectly with one of the core benefits of the CanYa platform and cryptocurrency in general.  The CANApps will be included on a preloaded dApp marketplace across this entire portfolio of smartphones.

upchannel

Marketing penetration and difficulties in Emerging Markets

As an example of its market penetration in 105 countries, UpChannel Connect is currently installed on roughly 3% of all phones in Uruguay and nearly 5% of all phones in Samoa.

With smartphone prices in emerging markets dropping below $30 USD, people are transitioning from old feature phones, going directly to smartphones and leapfrogging the PC altogether.

A lot of these new entrants to the Internet will enter via smartphone, which makes CanYa perfectly positioned to enable these new users to find and be paid for digital services across the globe. To use CanYa, they don’t even need bank accounts or credit cards and they will also not have to worry about large fees, as CanYa only takes a 1% service fee!

Takeaways

UpChannel and CanYa will work in concert to help deliver greater access in emerging markets to cryptocurrencies, smartphone technology and of course the gig economy. It is particularly exciting because UpChannel are focusing on the developing world – which is right now where blockchain technologies can help the most and also ironically the segment of the market that knows the least about the technology.

There are exciting opportunities for the two businesses to work together to develop our respective products and make use of operational and philosophical synergies.  CanYa is very excited to be work with UpChannel, to introduce the suite of CANApps to new people around the world.

CANApp #5 – CANSign

Introducing the newest tool for the CanYa ecosystem, CANSign.  CANSign allows anyone to prepare a contract, host it on IPFS and then request signatures from other parties, which is then signed irrefutably and stored on the blockchain.  To unpack that sentence; a contract you can always access, hosted on a global file storage system with a signature that cannot be altered to destroyed.  This is the future of file hosting, and record keeping and CanYa is making sure you have all the tools you require to make your business as streamlined as possible.

CanSign_how-it-works.png

How does it work, and what problem does it solve?

Despite the obvious benefits of operating as a sole trader or small business, without the correct supporting cast, small business owners can get into situations of non-payment and non-compliance with little grounds for recourse.  This is due to a myriad of reasons, including a lack of resources, lack of understanding of the law, not understanding the terms of the contract or in some exasperating situations losing the contract altogether.

CANSign essentially removes all of these vulnerabilities and does so with an intuitive interface and no logins.  It is an easy to use dApp that actually uses blockchain technology in a meaningful way – with obvious utility.  All transactions will be done on Ropsten Ethereum to save our users money whilst the Ethereum network is expensive.

What is Ropsten Ethereum?

Screen Shot 2018-05-17 at 1.09.45 pmRopsten Ethereum, also known as “Ethereum Testnet”, are as the name implies, a testing network that runs the same protocol as Ethereum does and is used for testing purposes before deploying on the main network (Mainnet).

Ethereum has several networks. Your Valuable ETHs are on the Main Net. The rETHs (fake ETH) are on the Ropsten one. You can get Ropsten Eth (fake eth) here:

faucet.metamask.io

It is useful to have Ropsten Ether to interact with other testnet dApps, so follow the steps on the faucet.

Application Flow

  1.  A contract would be uploaded to IPFS using CANSign, and then a hash would be generated representing the content of that file.
  2. This hash is then stored in the CANSign smart-contract and also then sent to the relevant party(s) so they can access the contract on IPFS.
  3. Once the parties are ready to sign the contract, their signature will be represented by a transaction on the Ethereum network.
  4. Proof that the contract was signed by both parties is then stored in the CANSign smart contract with perpetuity.

Future Iterations

Currently the signing of our contracts is done using a transaction that is associated with your Ethereum Address.  Moving forward we will have visual representations of your signature, that will also be immutably attached to the contract by smart-contract.

We are also actively researching integration of the ERC-725 ID standard for future versions.  ERC725 is a proposed standard for managing identity on the blockchain from Fabian Vogelsteller, who was also the creator of the ERC20 standard.

In essence, it is a smart-contract that forms the basis for managing identity and trust that allows smart-contract agreements to execute with surety.  Simplified further, it is an identification mechanism that brings greater ID certainty to digital contracts.

Once we are able to help you store a visual representation of your signature, as well as a secured record of your digital identity, we will have enabled a completely self-sovereign legal contract system.

An ERC725 integrated CANSign will undoubtedly be the premier contract application in the world.  This in itself is an incredible achievement, but here at CanYa it is just another one of our CANApps to help users get the most value from our ecosystem of services.

CanYa June Community Competition

There’s been a lot of buzz around the CANApps released so far and our community has been throwing ideas out there for future apps. Now is your chance to be really creative and think of the next big CANApp!

CanYa design a dApp?

We don’t just want a name – we need you to tell us what it’s used for, how it will work, and what utility it will add to the CanYa Ecosystem.  We are looking for well-reasoned dApp proposals.

This one will require a fair bit of effort to separate yourself from the pack.  There will only be one prize awarded, but its a good one!  The prize will include development of the CANApp (if suitable and applicable), a footnote naming reference to the winner and 1000CAN!

June Community Contest - How it Works.png

So, here’s what you need to do

1. Think about being a service provider or a user of the CanYa ecosystem and what utility you would need most?
2. Now that you have an idea – give it a name, CAN…….
3. Explain the purpose of the dApp – what it’s function is, e.g. CANShare – a way of sharing files with anyone, anywhere, that is free and immutable.
4. Now you need to explain how it will work. Provide as much detail as possible as to the steps involved in using the dApp. Sample screenshots may even be beneficial. Remember, you are submitting a proposal to the CanYa team to develop an app for the ecosystem that is designed by you.  This is your chance to shine!
5. Once you’ve got your proposal together, send it directly to @johanlives or any of our mods in our Telegram portal.

Winning Entry

The CanYa Team and Moderators will select the best entry – which will be selected on creativity and usefulness to the existing CanYa ecosystem.

If the winning app is pegged for active development there will be no set time frame for its launch.  It will be scheduled into our busy development schedule and completed as soon as practical.  Remember though, the winning entry will need to pass the internal CanYa standards before it will be approved for development.

All entries will be deemed to be the property of CanYa and any, or all entries may in time be developed into CANApps.  Put your thinking hats on, sharpen your pencils and we can’t wait to see your entries!

Newsletter #4

Hello from our CEO

Again it’s been an incredibly busy period; hiring and training up the team (we now have 25 full time staff (not including community moderators) as well as getting into a weekly release cycle for our CANApps. The team has released four CANApps (decentralised applications in the CanYa ecosystem) as well as full crypto integration in Bountysource.com. We have signed on additional partners, was listed on another exchange and have participated in conferences all around the world. We ran a hackathon, participated BlockEngine’s blockchain startups in Melbourne and donated our first tranche of CAN to our charity partners.

Our team is incredibly focused to build up a decentralised ecosystem for peer-peer services and we have a lot of exciting things on the horizon; with more CANApp releases, more partners and more contributions to the community. The CanYa team is very happy to be supported by our fantastic community, and will continue to boldly build and show the world how decentralised technologies will disrupt legacy business models and return value to users.

CanApps:

We want to create an entire suite of CanYa tools that can be used by our freelancers inside of the CanYa ecosystem. This will be achieved through our awesome CANApps. These apps are also designed to help newcomers navigate through the cryptocurrency space as one of CanYa’s goals is to help spread the meaningful adoption of cryptocurrency.

This month we launched the first four CANapps:

  • CANInvoice – A free, easy to use invoice creation tool for all CanYa users
  • CANStation – An easy to use tool to help people set the correct gas fees when interacting with the Ethereum network.
  • CANShare – (previously CANTransfer) – an amazing tool that uses IPFS to allow people to transfer large files (up to 100GB) across the internet free of charge!
  • CANTrack – Simple, effective, time management software that allows records to be kept immutably on the blockchain.

There are also many more exciting CANApps in the pipeline to be released over the coming months!

Bountysource by CanYa:

This month was also a massive milestone for Bountysource with the addition of crypto bounties and smart contract auditing to the platform! This is a massive space in today’s cryptocurrency market and Bountysource aims to leverage it’s 50,000 developer community and brand power to become the go-to place for crypto bounties and smart contract audits.

The Largest bounty in Bountysource History:

Education First has revived a three-year-old Mozilla bounty that has sat dormant on Bountysource.  The mammoth bounty immediately got traction in the community and as per writing this update developers are working around the clock on solutions.

This particular bug, the Mozilla Firefox WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communications) issue which relates to the lack of support for NTLM/Kerberos authentication in Firefox.  What this means in native English is that users are unable to capture & stream audio/visual media.

As progress continues we will update the community on both the solution and the process of the developers.  Bounties of this size are rare in the open-source community, and so naturally, they create intrigue when someone starts plotting a solution.

Given that we are huge supporters of an open-source future, we are very excited about the prospect of more large companies using services such as Bountysource to solve open-source software issues.  We will continue to update the community on the progress of one of the biggest open-source bounties in the world.

Community Updates:

Charity Winners

As outlined in the CanYaCoin Asset Contract, we will donate 10% of the unsold tokens from our ICO to a charity poolThe charity pool is intended to go towards charitable organisations, to support for-purpose projects in the Web3 space, and to contribute to education in software development to support the growth of the blockchain and Web3 projects.

The winner of the inaugural Charity Vote was AidCoin, coincidentally a project focused on making donations more transparent by linking the contribution to a blockchain.

The AidCoin solution is very important due to the social distrust with the allocation of charitable funds in recent times.  Charities have a tremendous role to play in the improvement of the most vulnerable, but it will only be a viable method if people can be assured that their money is getting to the places and causes it was intended to go.

We are delighted to help power the AIDChain platform as it aims to make the nonprofit sector more transparent.

Binance Dexathon:

This month CanYa also hosted a Dexathon with our good friends Type Human and Consensys to solve the Binance hackathon problem of creating a truly decentralised exchange. We had a great turn out amongst the Melbourne blockchain development community and some very impressive solutions were proposed and potentially some will be implemented!

The weekend refreshments were taken care of by the legends at Young Henry’s who kept everyone sane as they worked deep into the night all weekend.
