“Excellent Service, quick and got the job done with care. Would definitely use his service again and recommend to anyone needing help with a move!”

Stephen Tobin is one of CanYa’s arborists – or in more common terms a ‘tree surgeon‘. He manages, maintains and cares for trees. Stephen is pretty handy around the garden, and along with tree-whispering can help with:
As our provider of the week, we checked in with Stephen to get his top arborist/gardening tips.
1. Don’t harm the palm
Stephen has been in the tree game for going on four years. One of the more memorable jobs – or challenges – as it turned out, was convincing a client to keep a neglected old palm tree. Originally he was called in to pull out the tree, but after a bit of back and forth Stephen managed to get her to agree to rejuvenating it instead. After some TLC, the tree stands tall and proud as the main feature of the garden. Working with what you’ve got often has stunning results. In the mood for more old trees? Check them out here.
2. Keep the customer happy
In his time as a service provider, the most important service Stephen offers is satisfaction. Stephen says he isn’t happy with his work, until the customer is. He does this by carefully consulting with his customers before, during and after the work is completed. He is happy to tweak and fix his work until the desired look is achieved. This of course includes making sure the site is spick and span before he leaves. Big tick!
3. License to arbor
What do you get when you add height, power tools and all sorts of weather conditions? A OH&S nightmare! But don’t worry, Stephen comes fully prepared for the dangers of his work, and has all the right tickets. Including:
Everyone knows the struggle; it is very real. You want (read: NEED) a dog but you are too rational. You know that it wouldn’t be fair for the dog to have both a dog and your current lifestyle. Up until now you are just caught in the vicious cycle:
CanYa will connect you to trusted local providers that will allow you to maintain your independent lifestyle without breaking the bank. No more feeling guilty about going away for the weekend because Doggy McDogFace (I assume that is the name of your dog) will be looked after!
Do you sometimes find yourself looking through your old photos? You’re not alone. There’s nothing better than to relive those special moments, often spent with family and friends. It’s not always easy to capture these moments ourselves, so why not invest in a CanYa photographer for your next event?
Xavier Thorbjornsen is one of CanYa’s most experienced, highly rated and longest serving providers. Better yet, he’s a photographer who not only prides himself on his quality service, but on his reasonable price point, so you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for cherished photos.
“My service is special because I’m able to provide photos that have the same quality or better as a wedding photographer – but for half the price.”
And he has the reviews to back it up, with 5-star ratings across the board.
Danis Marah: “Highly recommend this guy. He did exactly as he said he would, within the stated time frame. Excellent” – 5 stars
Marcel Brewster: “Great job, easy to talk to and good quality work” – 5 stars
If you’re a parent, you’ve almost certainly heard this from your friends in the lead up to any social occasion. Well that is easier said than done.
You can’t always rely on friends and family to look after your kids – sadly they have social lives too (very inconsiderate of them!). When your go-to sitters aren’t an option, finding someone who meets your standards and is available can be tough. The search alone can take up much of your valuable time.
When parents are in search of a babysitter, the top 5 qualities are:
Genuine interest in children
And finally, the most sought after quality – someone who is trustworthy.
So the question remains, how do you find babysitters you can trust to look after your kids?
CanYa is Australia’s best services app and finding trusted, verified and reviewed babysitters is easier than ever. It is a platform where local providers can establish their skill set and let their work speak for itself. The providers verify their ID and receive peer-peer reviews on every job. Parents can now peruse all available babysitters and select the person they want to mind their kids- all of the important information is available to them.
This is exactly what two families in Darwin have done already with Courtney Furlan. After CanYa launched in Darwin in December 2016, Courtney jumped onboard straight away. She has quickly picked up two jobs babysitting and has earned herself a couple of 5 star reviews!
Courtney has been babysitting for a while now and CanYa has provided her with the perfect platform to advertise her skills. At the end of each job, mutual feedback is required from both the booking member and the provider. This peer-peer reviewing is what builds a trusted community of providers.
Want to book Courtney as your babysitter?
Next time you find yourself needing a babysitter, you should follow the lead of other families in Darwin and book Courtney! Courtney loves doing arts and craft with the children that she babysits and will even bring her own supplies if you don’t have any!
The steps for booking a trusted, verified and reviewed babysitter like Courtney are:
It will come as no surprise that the most popular New Year’s Resolution overall is to get fit, healthy and/or lose weight. Now that 2017 is well and truly underway, take a moment to reflect on those New Year’s Resolutions you committed to a few weeks back – are you on track? If you’ve found yourself slacking off, never fear – everyone knows February is the real time to start kicking goals.
If you want to get serious about your fitness journey it’s time you meet Nathan Isaac, one of CanYa’s fitness providers.
“Health is the core of everything. When you better your health, you better every aspect of your life” – Nathan Isaac
Fitness is more than just a job for Nathan, it is his life. He has a holistic approach to keeping a healthy lifestyle, and says while training and eating healthy is important, there is more to wellbeing than these two factors, including:
Sleep – almost nothing is more important than a good night’s sleep
Mental health – your mood, confidence and focus are all important to your overall health
Hydration – your body needs water to function, a well-hydrated body is a happy body
Here is another snap of Nathan, he is mountain climbing in Nepal – are you seeing a pattern here? Nathan loves the great outdoors and says he loves to train his clients outside in the open.
Bodyweight exercises or – callisthenics – is Nathan’s primary style of training. A client will keep their heart rate high with a mix of:
Burpees (urgh, the worst!)
Just to name a few.
CanYa has helped Nathan in an unexpected way
Nathan recently needed some plumbing advice. Instead of googling endlessly, he realised he had the CanYa app quite literally at his fingertips. He used the chat function to get in contact with a local Darwin plumber “Chandley Plumbing“, who gave him the recommendations he needed.
CanYa brings people together! ❤
Some words of advice
Some final pearls of wisdom form Nathan:
Be patient – it may have taken years to get to where you currently are today, so don’t expect miracles to happen within days.
Throw out the scale – remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so the scales aren’t always accurately showing your progress. Nothing is more demotivating than seeing next to no results from stepping on the scale every single day. Say bye!
Track your progress – track your workout times, reps and weights. As long as you’re moving up in reps or weight, you know that you’re making progress.
DIY isn’t for everyone. Even if you are pretty handy, every now and then there will be a repair which you can’t quite tackle. Thankfully, the CanYa Community is full of everyday superheroes who can take care of these pesky tasks for you. Enter James Bermingham.
James is the handiest handyman that CanYa (and therefore Darwin) has to offer! After all, people don’t just hand out 5 star reviews for nothing. You might be asking yourself “What does a handyman even do?”. Well in James’ case, he does about everything:
Question: How many James Bermingham’s does it take to change a lightbulb?
Answer: One. No joke – James was once booked to do just that!
There is no job that is too big, too small, too easy or too hard for this handyman.
You might be thinking “Changing a light bulb is easy! I could do that, why would I need a handyman?”. Well you might be able to change a light bulb, but can you do all the other things James can?
Below you’ll see some of James’ pour work (it’s a concrete joke).
Stop putting off those annoying jobs. YES you could Google it, YES there is probably somebody on YouTube that will show you how to do it but NO you will not get around to doing it! James is your man.
